Which Toshiba Satellite laptop should I get?

All I really need it for is internet and writing papers (I’m going into college), and for watching some episodes of House. A Consumer Report I read has led me to narrow it down to the T135-S1305 (but I hear the mouse and touchpad aren’t so great) and the A505-S6005. Budget around $ 700. Any thoughts?

try this Laptop (hasn’t got a cd drive, so you’ll want to also get an external cd/dvd drive with it)

and toshiba tablet pen

toshiba tablet 2011 get Hey Yahoo. So, I’m looking for purchasing my very first laptop. The world of laptops is quite confusing and I’d like some help. I’ve looked through Consumer Reports and searched on the internet. My purposes for the laptop would be for high school/college work and compatible with 2Wire wireless internet. What else should I look for when buying a laptop? What’s your favorite laptop? What’s the best brand to buy? Ahhh, it’s mind-boggling. Thanks so much for answering and helping me out! (: P.S.- My parents are allowing me to split the price half and half with them so that’s a bonus! I’d love to get a MacBook (cause I’d pay about $ 500 of it) but my good friend has one and I don’t want her to think I’m copying her. :(

What you want to be able to do with your laptop determines how sophisticated your laptop should be. It ranges from simple web surfing, googling, facebook, msn on the low end to video editing and intense gaming on the high end.

Your laptops screen size is an important factor in how easy it is to carry around, and how much of a desktop replacement it is. Smaller screen: easier to carry around and light weight, not so comfortable to work with all day
How long you want to work just on battery power is another important factor. If you are always close to a power outlet, you do not need an expensive long lasting battery.

Most of the time laptops are used wireless because of the extra freedom it gives. Now you may go for wireless internet from a cellular provider giving you access to internet both inside and outside of your house plus on the road. Or you may go for an internet connection linked to in and around your house. The latter is cheaper.

Wireless in and around your house requires: Internet connection (naturally), a router, firewall and wireless access point (usually combined in just one box), and your laptop.

Wireless in and around your house follows standards, most common these days are wireless g and wireless n (officially IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11n). Wireless n is faster and has more range, it is recommended in houses made from concrete. Most laptops and wireless access points combine more than one standard.

Encryption of the information sent between your laptop and wireless access point is important. The thing to look for is WPA and WPA2, the latter being better. Of course, both your laptop and wireless access point should be able to handle the same encryption.

As you are new, select a wireless access point on the basis of ease of install, even if you have it installed for you, you need to understand where you find what and how to make changes.

MacBookPro is good, but not on your budget. Next choice? Look at Lenovo. Beyond that, others here will give you specifics, I’m sure, so please give them your points. But WHAT to look for, please take heed:

(1) Durability, of course

(2) PLEASE go to a store that has one, and FEEL the keyboard. Many friends of mine and people of whom I’ve heard, have bought a computer sight unseen, based on a reputation, and ended up very displeased with the keyboard, and had to live with it. If the keyboard doesn’t fit YOUR hands, you’re up the creek without a paddle, as they call it.

Two other good places for reviews:
cnet.com
pcmag.com

When your ready to start lookin look here or at the mfg website for specials like the dell outlet center, toshiba specials and sales from the home page

THIS IS NOT AN AFFILIATE PROGRAM OR LINK FOR ME TO MAKE COMMISSION LIKE PEOPLE LINKING YOU TO AMAZON OR CNET USE, I MAKE NO MONEY WHAT SO EVER FROM THIS POSTING

NO NON NO< no HP< COMPUKE OR GATEWAY top 3 worst on the market

I am just as confused as you are (lol) but if you decide to go with a PC, I’d say go for Gateway. For the first entire year that your laptop will be under warranty they offer awesome service. Make sure you register it as soon as you get it all set up. My whole hard drive went and the only thing I had to pay was for shipping back to me. It cost a total of $ 28 to get it fixed (shipping back to me) and from the time I shipped it to the time I got it back it was exactly one week. My sister also has a Gateway and her keyboard went and she e-mailed them and they sent her a brand new one with very easy to follow instructions on how to install it. No charge to her whatsoever, which is what made me go for Gateway, and I did not feel I was copying her.

my names not yahoo

Best brand to buy? Asus, Toshiba, and Sony Vaio have proven to be the most reliable for the last couple years. HP, Gateway, and Acer have been the least reliable brands during the same period. See below:

Well I will suggest that as your budget is low I will recommend that you should go and check out the Dell Latitude D620 laptops.

These Dell Latitude D620 laptops are really good and functional too for long term basis as well as they are durable too.
