Dell Or HP? Price? Reliablitlty? Any thing else i should know about either brand? HELP PLEASE ITS URGENT!!?

My mom is getting me a Laptop for my birthday. She is planning got buy it at B And H or best buy.

She says dell was found better than Hp on consumer reports but she cant find the article. All my Friends have Hp and they love it but no n can compare the two.
Please give any info you know about either brand and there models.
Tips
Price- 1 – 1000 dollars
reliability- probably only use it in the house but need every day for typing home work researching and playing games not one of those entertainment laptops my ma already said no.

Dell’s speciality is computers. Hp is more a printer company. Get Dell.

Dell is better and i have a couple of articles from the newspaper saying Dell is the best. They also have the best customer support. But all accesories and everything for a dell have to be purchased from the dell website and most of the things are expensive. For example my dell laptop adapter burned out and now i have to buy a new one from dell and its 70 bucks no other companies are compatible with dell and there are no stores. But in the end Dell is still better

That guy from the first answer doesn’t seem to know what he is talking about. HP’s specialty but now its computers. In fact HP surpassed Dell as the number one pc manufacturer. I highly recommend a HP. The design of the computer is more elegant then a Dell. Plus HP’s have there computers loaded with fun games plus fun software you can use to edit your pics and movies.

and toshiba m400 tablet

toshiba android tablet get I read something that seemed to indicate they could. But, I am hoping for confirmation one way or the other?

Macs are supposed to be a hair less reliable, per Consumer Reports study, but, the Mac OS is supposed to be better. Hoping for best of both.
I already have a new laptop. I was thinking about experimenting with either the oldest (five years – XP) one that is only an emergency laptop now that is in a closet.
or, my wife’s if it was something fairly easily done. I have more experience doing hardware mods than technical software operation changes

A PC cannot run Mac OS but a Mac can run PC OS

If you go on youtube there are tutorials on how to make your pc act as a Mac OS. It will change the settings to make is look and function like one.

Legally you can’t. Mac OSX only allows there operating system to be put on their hardware. There are some hacker that have done it but these are experienced people and i wouldn’t imagine it would share the reliability aspect that you’re looking for from the OS. Your best bet right now is probably just going with XP, its a very sturdy operating system. When Windows 7 comes out it will probably be better, but currently a lot of people aren’t fans of Vista. (Linux might also be something you look into if you’re experienced but it’s not going to have the compatibility aspects of the previous operating systems).

It’s up in the air right now as to how legal it is. Apple says you can’t do it in their EULA, but that is being challenged in court currently by several parties.

Apple uses a more modern type of BIOS called EFI. People have basically created a fake EFI boot loader for PCs that trick them into running OS X.

You have to have a fairly modern (last 3 years or so) processor, ideally Intel, to do it. Some models have mode OS X drivers available for them than others. WIFI drivers tend to be a problem.

If you are just curious, you can read more about it by Googling “OSX86″ with the quotes.

The unresolved legal issue aside, it’s a lot easier to just buy a Mac and know that the hardware is made for it and drivers / support are available. Apple hardware is generally fantastic.
