My Epson EH-TW3000 projector just blew a lamp at 385 hours when its meant to go for 3000. Why has it blown?

I just set this up and replaced my Benq W500 with this and WOW. What a difference. This picture is super clear, and bright. It is just amazing. Picture is clean, sharp, and bright. Brightness was my big complaint with my last projector and surely, not with this one. I’ve watched a few blu ray movies and it looks awesome. Few key points, price is good, great picture, bright, and super quite. Also lense shift makes it easy to get everything centered if it is off a little bit. The only thing I noticed with it that surprised me was how much bigger and heavier it was then my last projector, but not a big deal. All in all, excellent projector, especially for the money.

This is my first ever projector. After much deliberation and research I purchased EPSON 8350. I am more than satisfied with product. Works right out of box, easy to install an delivers the video with excellent quality. Would strongly recommend this product and will never go wrong with this.
I Just recieve my 8350 from Electronic Expo (3rd party seller here at amazon) last night and try it right away to see for any issues, fortunatley everything is perfect im really satisfied with the purchase. My throw distance is 12 feet from a 120″ Favi screen and i was blown away with the picture quality on Toy Story 3 bluray, all i can say is WoW ,, The customer service from Electronic Expo by the way is top notch, their sale representative are always calling me to update my order, they also used 3 day USP shipping on it so it just took exactly 5 days on the entire transaction. SO if you wanted to enter the world of projector but on a budget, then this is the best projector for you. the AVS forum also helps me a lot on deciding to get this projector. So overall im highly satisfied with this PJ.

This unit when working is not a bad unit. However, I have received this Auto Iris error 2 times in less than 2 months. There is no fix that an individual can apply; it requires being sent back to the manufacturer. This process is cumbersome as they want to charge you for a brand new unit, and then will refund you once they receive the old unit back. Or you can send your defective unit back and they will over-night another unit to you. Second option doesn’t sound bad, right? Well, it takes 3 weeks for them to turnaround and ship your unit back. If this defection only occurred once, I would give it 4 stars, but twice in less than 2 months not so much.

If one is going to ceiling mount this you may wish to purchase a longer power cord. I bought a 15 foot power cord for this for about 8 bucks so it is long enough to plug in to my power conditioner, extension cords are a bad idea. This worked great for my ceiling installation Cables To Go 09482 18 AWG Universal Power Cord, IEC320C13 to NEMA 5-15P (15 Feet) One can run cords through walls or you can do as I did and use conduit such as the product here which hides the cord and sticks on and requires no nails. Wiremold C210 White Cordmate II Kit so it looks like a nice clean installation.

I had a limited budget ($ 1500 or less), and sought to replace an older Optoma DLP projector that I gave to a friend when I moved out of the country. This Epson unit consistently came up in user reviews and expert A/V sites during my research.

I like this better than the movie theater. As the screen is smaller it is easier to get a high resolution picture. The surround sound speakers which are the Energy Take Classic 5.1 set with the Energy CF-30 floor standing speakers (I got a great deal for 150 each new) make for wonderful sound. There is plenty of great home theater equipment out there but this was the best for my budget at the time. I would highly recommend a good audio set up to go along with the amazing picture quality you will have with this projector.

I have just taken my projector out of the box and it has a major problem. I can see red and green around faces and text. It is terrible. All this from a new projector.

This projector often lose synchronization ( loses picture and shows noises ), when I play my Panosonic BD player ( DMP-BD55 ), although it works with U-verse DVR. Panasonic projectors and all of my LCD players do not have this problem.

And where is the best place to get a replacement lamp online?

I have an Epson projector that’s bulb blew at just shy of 1000 hours. Heat can be the killer so make sure there is adequate ventilation space around your projector. Make sure that the hot air doesn’t mix back with the cool air. Ensure the filter is clean so that enough cool air can get sucked through.

So things that can cause bulb failure are:
1) Too much heat (inadequate cooling)
2) Dirty power (spikes/surges or dips/brown outs)
3) Bulb movement when in use (vibrating or knocking the projector can reduce bulb life)
4) Turning it on and off again a lot. The initial ignition of the bulb is the hardest on it and the heating then cooling (expanding and contracting) of the structures when on then off impact its life.
5) Touching the bulb. Fingers can leave oils on the surface of the bulb that can deteriorate it when heated.
6) A defective bulb

Under 400 hours is pretty low but most likely out of warranty.

As for where to buy a new one, it depends where you are located. I’m in Canada and went with www.projectorlampexperts.ca.

I have to agree with D(A/V)ID.

Heat is an issue with projectors because they try to cram a super-hot bulb into a tiny shoe-box package so it ‘cooks’ itself unless you have very good cooling and ventilation.

How you use the projector is also a factor. While you can watch normal TV signals on a projector every night, the people who know about these things tend to only use their projector for movies a night or two a week. They have a more traditional TV for casual watching because the constant on/off reduces the bulb life.

Projector bulbs are halogen bulbs, which generate an insane amount of heat to get that super white color. and, that makes them very susceptible to premature burnout due to excessive heating. Such tips as always running the cooling fan for 5 minutes after operation, and not moving or otherwise jarring the projector until the cool-down is complete is critical to long bulb life. Also, make sure to routinely check for obstructions in the cooling system vents or ducts, and make sure the projector isn’t too close to a wall or other object that could somehow restrict air flow through the unit.

Projector bulbs typically last from 700 hours to as much as 6000 hours, with the average being about 2000 hours. And, the best way to protect them for a long, happy life is proper cooling and delicate handling.
