People who have websites that require internet hosting can use HostGator

Before they choose to use this hosting service, they ought to determine what can be expected before they sign about the dotted line. Many small company owners write HostGator reviews to speak regarding the benefits of by using this internet hosting service for his or her business websites. com or tracelane. So why don't you have website that is certainly totally focused on us? There are other means at exactly the same time of displaying our talents like having a LinkedIn page or perhaps a Facebook page but these are to a great extent limited.

Consumers ought to know until this company uses wind energy to power their company. Business owners can install their email onto their cellular phone for instant use of their corporate email account. This means the quantity of data that may be exchanged between your website and the ones accessing it. The very first thing that business owners should remember of is that they can can choose from three different intends to launch their websites. They are environmentally friendly, and so they are lowering the quantity of emissions that pollute the environment. In fact even 99% uptime is low these days. This means the quantity of data that could be exchanged between the website and the ones accessing it. The elite plan provides a free phone number plus a free IP address and SSL.

The first thing that business owners should be aware of is they can pick from three different intends to launch their websites. Many people just like the fact they could pay monthly, bi-annually, yearly, 2 years, or 36 months if they want. This means the quantity of data that could be exchanged between your website and the ones accessing it. However this can be described as a disadvantage as it will take up valuable website real-estate that could possibly be used by anyone to place your own ads and make money.

For example, just for . Some websites advertise how the website has unlimited bandwidth which is actually misleading. The best thing regarding support could be the fact that you can access them via telephone, email/support ticket and live chat.

Another characteristic that really needs to become considered will be the speed of the website. Moreover, the very fact that they can are conducting financial transactions will also mean which they be provided the different modes of payment and transactions. You'll probably never hear of another webhost online that gives such top quality (and more importantly, responsive) support for their customers.

Customizing an HP laptop..?

Consumer Reports said that the HP dv9700t is a great laptop, so I went on the site and decided to see what this laptop has to offer. I use a lot of big programs like The Sims 2 (and soon to be The Sims 3), Adobe Photoshop, ect all while running ITunes, and a few internet explorers, so I need a fast computer.

How are these for settings? Any recommendations? (As it is, the computer will cost me approx 1600$ , but I have added quite a few accessories.) Is there anything that I should upgrade, or downgrade?

I had done this on the American site.. but I can’t seem to find this laptop on the Canadian one!

well, so u r a Sims2 freak? me too :D . and I’m looking forward to 2009 for The sims 3… well for smooth gaming experience I’d advice you to Downgrade it to windows XP, but your computer is strong enough to get hold of Vista, and Vista supports DirectX 10…well I’d be satisfied with those specs. You do not need to upgrade or downgrade anything. in addition to that if you downgrade to windows XP yourself you will have to search all of the drivers yourself and… well takes a lot of time, I’ve done it and know what it takes. But if you take the laptop to HP service center and they downgrade it, there should be no problem.

toshiba portege tablet get I’m looking for the best deal on a laptop, widescreen,at least 512 mem,60-80gb hd, 1.73ghz,widescreen able to record and watch dvds and cds. I’ve been searching the web and am getting overwhelmed. pcworld and consumer reports I trust, but any recommendations I welcome. Thanks

check Dell’s small business unit for laptop deals. the various units of Dell work (& price) independently of each other, so you find good deals that don’t carry over to other sales sections of the company.

Hey, Fryes electronics =www.outpost.com They are better than best buy and carry refurbished stuff too.Don’t know where you are but I go to Sacramento.Seems like they have it all. Also Craigslist.com……Amazon.com……Ebay. Those are some of the places I like to go to check prices. Good Luck! beau2beau

Buy Dell most computers i see in my workshop are HP or Compaq

check out this site, they give you a sony vaio laptop FOR FREE!! i got mine last week and it’s smokin’!

I am trying to convince my parents to buy me a macbook pro i wrote this list well what do you think?

20 Reasons Why I Need a Macbook Pro

1.Macs are more reliable. In the past 8 months my computer has had to have the Os re-installed 4 times, 3 for hard drive problems and 1 for a virus. Mac's are very reliable machines according to consumer reports, and multiple reviews online such as C-net, Notebook reviews, Consumer reports, ECT. Mark the Mac book pro as a very good Computer, better than a PC.
2.Macs Run windows to! On a Macbook Pro I Can Run Windows as well as Mac OS X through Boot Camp. So in way I will get the best of both worlds I can run Mac OS X for internet and video editing and music editing, then I can run Windows Vista for Games, Office, and Windows Exclusive programs I might need.
3.I Know How to Use Macs. I can use a Mac much better than a PC. I was taught how to use them in elementary school. Right down to how to use all of the Mac office programs.
4.No Viruses! On Macs there are no viruses, which means that I can /surf the web with confidence my computer is safe.
5.If my Mac breaks no problem! With Apple care I can call Apple and my problem is fixed either by an apple expert helping me through it our by sending my computer to apple. Were as with a PC if it breaks Basically your screwed, first you have to find the problem, then call support then figure out how to fix it, then try do to do all of the things that you have no clue on how to do. No no no no with a Mac I call apple and since Macs are so simple with a description of my problem I have an answer.
6.A Mac Will Help Me in School. Last year I had 12 late or missing essays and research assignments because my computer was broken. On a Mac if it breaks I just send it to apple and in a few days I get a new computer for free. But it takes weeks to fix a PC.
7.They Last Forever!!!!!! On a Mac the Requirements to run software are very slim, the average life of a Mac is about 5 years compared to the 2 year life of a PC.
8.I can Use a Mac for Everything!!! Since Macs run Windows and Mac OS X there is no such thing as incompatible software.
9.You May Say at This Point "I am Convinced you need a Mac, But why a Macbook pro?" Well a Macbook pro is a notebook, which means I can use it anywhere. For example what if I have a huge report I have to do over the weekend but we are going to grandmas house, well I could take my Macbook pro and I could work on a report, and study for a test with a preloaded study guide.
10.I will get A's on my report Card. With a Mac there are no viruses and they are notably reliable so there is no excuse of my computer had a virus, or the "it was broken" excuse. A Macbook pro will help me excel in school and in extra activities I do such as movie making and video games and there is guitar learning software.
11.Since I will be using the computer I should get the computer I want to use. What you guys have to remember is that the next computer I'm going to get will be my computer, so in that case I should get the computer that I want to use, not the one that you want me to use.
12.If I get the Macbook pro I will have enough space on my desk to do other things. Such as homework, or work. Right now my desk is too crowded with CRT monitors to do work; well a laptop would take care of that.
13.There is a brand new update. An update came out on June 5th which means that I will get the most advanced technology now.
14.A Macbook pro is the most powerful notebook and most powerful Mac other than the Mac pro.
15.I have two lives. If I came home from school one day and I found my computer broken my dell, I would have to wait for dad to fix it. But with a Mac I can run Windows and OS X so if OS X dies I can use windows because it uses a separate portion of the hard drive, and vise versa.
16.Apple is the only company that makes the software and the hardware. On a Mac the software is made to use all of the advantages of the hardware. Were as on a PC the software is made to be used on 100 companies computers
17.All the programs I use and want to use are on Mac. I use iTunes and that's a program designed for Mac. I cant use iMovie, or Logic.
18.A new OS is about to be released. Leopard is about to be released, with many more features than tiger.
19.I can use .mac. .mac is a net based e-mail and web page publisher and internet storage. With many other features.
20.Macs just work. Macs are so simple a caveman can use them, they work so well, and they are so easy to use that you can use it to learn languages, or to learn how to play an instrument. They just work, were as with a PC needs to have lessons to learn how to use it.

With a Macbook pro I can just do everything and have everything work. Reasons 1-20 are the reasons I need a Macbook pro.
oh yeah and btw im not asking people about the classic mac or windows im asking if my list is good, dont answer if your gonna say something such as “buy a pc instead”

That sounds very convincing, I would definately go with it. Now to be 100% honest, at least half of the stuff you said is untrue, but hey who cares really, it sounded convincing so go for it. One thing I can think of is if you can weave in the whole argument about multimedia stuff like videos and photos, Macs are far superior in that regard. Again in reality that is total crap, but most people tend to believe it so go for it. Good luck!

give that to them, they will be impressed, then get a virus and put it on your windows pc

lol, you forgot to say that microsoft sucks and apple rocks!!

well, parents need ONE very good reason, and so far your list has not been THAT impressive, although it has a few good points. If you plan on giving your parents this list, don’t do it…..it’s kindda like beggin…for some odd reasons, when parents sense that you are begging, they get annoyed and don’t give you whatever. The best way to do this would be to talk with them during dinner and say something like: “Mom, dad, I have been working hard in school this past month, and you know that the computer I have now isn’t working that much for me. I think it would really benefit me if I can get Mac because……….. (remember , say this in the most adult way as possible)

Just buy a P.C. they are more popular. And if you’re smart they are just as reliable as a Mac. I’ve had a P.C. for over eight years and it works fine,OS is Windows 98. The problem is people don’t want to buy Ant-virus and other security programs. Also there are more things designed for P.C.s

Well if you want to lie to them. Only number 3 is true.

1. Macs are prone to failure and will crash. I know plenty of people who have had their mac crash more often than my windows pc. How many times has my PC crashed? Once, due to my memory gone bad. Not window’s fault. Problem solved in a few hours.
2. Sure, but not great.
3. Maybe you do.
4. Just because you haven’t gotten a virus doesn’t mean there aren’t any. Computers don’t delete files or crash themselves, it’s usually your fault. Years ago around OS 9 I wrote a simple program that killed any mac. Viruses are very easy to make for a mac. That’s why no one tries.
5. Apple screws just as many customers as any other company. They won’t cover a lot of things and they aren’t as reliable as you think. Most of the time you have to pay for something if not at least shipping cost.
6. Files don’t delete themselves. Computers don’t break themselves. I used to be a computer repair tech and fixed many systems. Almost every one had crashed or had problems I could fix in less than 3 days with all data recovered. They all had problems that came from viruses or downloaded programs that they shouldn’t have been installing. Stupid users are the biggest threat to PCs.
7. The average laptop lasts just as long as a macbook. You don’t have to upgrade to the new OS. I had my last laptop for over 5 years and it still works well. I’ve seen macs fail after less than a year. They are prone to the same problems.
8. They don’t run everything. Ok so you can run windows, but have you tried to run software on it? Even using IE is a pain. Oh and don’t even think about playing a game on it. It’s not compatible with everything. And should I mention Mac software is 3 times more expensive?
9. Why? Sure it’s a laptop but it’s a big 5lb laptop for two grand. You could buy a 1.5lb sony vaio for the same price and it’s even more portable with nearly the same power.
10. Having a mac doesn’t mean you’ll get As. You’re giving your parents ammo to take your macbook away if they buy you one and you fail. If your computer breaks, it’s probably your fault. If you knew you had something due you should have backed it up at school or maybe even printed it out.
11. If the next computer you’re going to get is going to be “your” computer, then why don’t you buy it with “your” money. That’s how parents look at things.
12. Your desk is crowded? Hmm, well you could get a laptop for half the price of a macbook with windows on it. That’s always an option.
13. The update was LED backlighting. That’s pretty much it. So you really aren’t getting much of anything over the prior model. Just a slightly nicer screen.
14. False. There are by far better windows based laptops out there. In fact there are ones that would rival high-end gaming desktops. Saying Macbook is that good is a flat out lie. I have seen laptops that can play HL2 at full resolution and edit HD video. Macbooks can’t.
15. If you’re using a dell, it’s no wonder it breaks. Maybe if you had a decent PC you wouldn’t have all these complaints. Go buy an HP.
16. Again, you’re using a dell. They use the cheapest parts. Things go wrong with Mac hardware and software. Just because they make both doesn’t mean things don’t go wrong. You just have to know how to match good hardware with windows. Dell doesn’t do that. Again, get an HP.
17. All those programs you use are on PC too. Actually PC has more powerful programs than mac. The system allows more power and expanse than mac is currently capable of. I’m a programmer and a pc builder, I also do HD filming and music editing. I do all this on a PC because the software tools are far superior to a mac. Avid editing software is the best, it’s for both mac and PC but functions better on PC. If you’re editing movies, you won’t get very good performance or write time on a macbook. iTunes isn’t a very good program. Windows Media Player is better by far.
18. Leopard has very minor changes. If you think Leopard is going to be this huge leap over Tiger then you haven’t been reading any of the press releases. It’s actually so minor the entire mac community had an uproar about it. It’s basically the same OS with some little enhancements you won’t notice.
19. I can use, well anything I want. .mac isn’t anything special. There are dozens of websites that offer free online storage in the gigs. Yahoo offers most of those services and even google is catching up with it.
20. I have a friend who works at the mac store. My friend told me people come in every day with a computer repair, most of them very simple. How could a caveman use a mac if none of the elderly can even use them. Most often elderly people return macs because they are too complicated. Mac isn’t as simple as you might think. It’s not created with linear thought in mind. Oh, and how exactly can you use a mac to learn languages or to play an instrument that you can’t do on a PC or with a book?

Lessons with a PC? Have you not heard about mac genius? Those people who’s job it is to help you learn how to use mac programs. Did you know they’ve made over a million dollars from that service? Macs aren’t easy enough to use if hundreds of thousands of purchasers need to go and ask how to use something.

Not saying macs aren’t nice. I just don’t like how people believe the blatant lies from the mac commercial. If you want a macbook pro, you’re going to need some factual reasons that can be backed by evidence. Most of that is hearsay.

why spend money on an macbook when you can get it for free? just go to this site and complete a few quick tasks and they’ll send you one!

Your 20-item list is impressive. If I were the average parent, I would say “Wow, you’ve done a lot of extensive research on the advantages of this product. Good job! But how much is it?”. Parents have to consider the price. In the realm of budgeting, you can only give them your cost estimate, they will be the ones to decide if the price is realistic and if it will be reasonable. Now, if I were an above-average parent, I would say “You know what, all these items prove your point, but they’re too much. This is too good to be true. I need to hear the truth about this computer’s disadvantages.” You see, convincing your parents doesn’t require an extensive list, unless they are the kind of parents who value quantity rather than quality of the reasons you give them. Be truthfull, don’t say that everything will improve, your studies, your talent, your skills, knowledge, etc. Don’t over-sell or hard-sell the idea of getting this MacBook Pro. Leave room for them to discover the facts by themselves. Just have the confidence that if this product is so good, when they research on it, they themselves will find out that its the better choice.
Lastly,I’d advice you to omit item #11.That’s pushing it too far. You’re supposed to be requesting something from your parents, not demanding something from them.

Hello,

There is nothing overly wrong about that laptop but if you want to play games you’re better off buying one with a dedicated graphics card.

As you like Sony I recommend you look at their FW range.

Hope this helps,

What do you think about the AT&T 50$ labtops?

By ConsumerReports.org
AT&T will begin selling netbooks with integrated wireless Internet cards, selling them for as low as $ 50 — with a data plan contract, of course. The rollout will begin in Atlanta and Philadelphia.

AT&T is also looking to enter the e-book market, according a company exec quoted by Bloomberg at the recent trade show in Las Vegas hosted by industry organization CTIA Wireless:

The Kindle, which lets users download books over Sprint Nextel Corp.’s network, has done a “phenomenal job,” and AT&T wants to be part of that market, Glenn Lurie, head of emerging devices at AT&T, said today. — Bloomberg.com

Verizon has also expressed interest in entering the e-reader fray, saying it had been approached by five (undisclosed) companies interested in a wireless connection like that of the Kindle.

The takeaway: AT&T’s netbook announcement, along with an earlier one from Verizon, suggests these tiny laptops are increasingly being positioned as much as an additional mobile network-connected device as a supplemental computer.

It’s unclear if the AT&T exec’s remarks on e-readers are anything more than an off-the-cuff response to the success of the Kindle. But the notion of another carrier joining Sprint — the carrier the Kindle uses — in the e-book business is intriguing. Wireless access to content is one of the most compelling aspects of the Kindle, giving it the edge over competitors like the Sony Reader (which we’ve covered in the past). The other is access to the huge library of e-content — Amazon’s 250,000 Kindle titles in the case of the Kindle. And to offer a compelling option to the Kindle, AT&T, Verizon, or any other carrier, will need to find a content partner with a competitive library. It isn’t immediately clear who might be able to offer that (perhaps other than Sony, with its Reader library.)

In my opinion I really dont think these will work out well. what do you think?

any laptop that costs 50 bucks seems like a scam to get money to me.
real technology is pricey, at least 200 bucks is reasonable for a computer that will actually be useful.

Reliablitlty? Any thing else i should know about either brand? My mom is getting me a Laptop for my birthday. She is planning got buy it at B And H or best buy.

She says dell was found better than Hp on consumer reports but she cant find the article. All my Friends have Hp and they love it but no n can compare the two.
Please give any info you know about either brand and there models.
Tips
Price- 1 – 1000 dollars
reliability- probably only use it in the house but need every day for typing home work researching and playing games not one of those entertainment laptops my ma already said no.

either brand would be great, but if I was buying it would be a hp,just like them better, that’s a personal opion

In terms of reliability, both Dell and HP are pretty much the same, so either is good. I don’t know what’s “B and H” but with Best Buy, you’ll get the customer service that you can always take your computer to if you need help.

So if you’re going to stick with a big name brand and get a preconfigured boxed system from a store, go with whichever one gives you more bang for the buck. Compare the specifications for each and see which one has better features of what you want.

HP and Dell both have decent laptops. What you want to look for when shopping for a laptop is processor speed and memory.

I suggest that you look for a laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor @ 2GHz or more. It is also good to have at least 2 GB of RAM. I also recommend Windows XP rather than Vista (just because Vista is new, does not mean it’s better), and I know that HP has the XP downgrade option.

Is it true WI-FI is harming the tree?Scientist says electro magnetic radiation harming trees, grass and plants?

I was planning on getting my own computer soon rather than sharing with college friends sooner or later. I was thinking about getting a Sony or Gateway Laptop, since those seem to be good picks according to consumer reports. However, just read and article in the morning paper, it stated WI-FI a minute or so ago and it said WI-FI damages trees. The effects is due to the laser technology and radiation stuff. I usually don’t believe the news paper media unless it is whether or environmental related. however, I can’t help but wonder what it will do to me ? Some scientist say it conclusive some, who are pressured by big companies say no well it is still being studied and some say well it may be a couple of years before they release the that info the world is not ready yet and too many people like the products. Can you imagine radiation all around you going through you because if this.? what are your thought. German and dutch are going to ban wi-fi by the end of next year according to the tribune and china may shortly follow. WEIRD. Any body out there heard anything like this WI-FI damaging trees. What do you think about WI-FI damage do you think everyone using it at the same time is really affecting. Laptops are expensive? I don’t think many people own them because they are expensive. so How can that be. I was wondering how many people own a laptop in the is. Maybe if I knew the answer this I could make a better judgment.let me know your thoughts on this. maybe switch to a regular desk top with dial-up since new laptop don’t have dial up ports on them.

WI-FI is not ionizing radiation. Meaning the wave lengths are not short enough to shake the atoms of cells and living tissues. Only ionizing radiation like X ray’s and Gamma rays can damage living organisms.

Wow, you got a lotta stuff in this….

1. “dont believe paper media” Guess what, its ALLLLLL media, no matter whether its print, tv, radio, comics, yahoo answers, other websites, mags at the grocery store, advertising on billboards, product packagings, etc, etc, etc, etc its all media, its all selling you something, and 90% of it world wide is owned by the same 5 for profit mega corps.

2. LOTS of people own laptops. Yeah, they are expensive, cars are so expensive you can buy a house for what some cars cost, but most people have them unless you live in the city and dont need one. Having a computer, specifically a laptop, is starting to become a necessity, not a luxury, at least for the adult world. Then again, I know many people who function perfectly well without a computer at all. It really depends on your background, what ya like and what ya do for a living.

3. Virtually everything about computers (not just wifi) is damaging our enviroment. And a lot of the toxic waste gets dumped in China and Asia, which is probably why they are wanting to ban computer related things. I bet you would too if the sh*t was dumped in YOUR back yard,

4. You will NEVER use dial up regularly if you have been exposed to broad band. You dont have to have wifi to have broadband though. I mean, cable modem, fiber optics, dsl. There are other options.

5. Wondering if “enough” people in the US does something to make it ok is the WORST way to evaluate whether or not something is damaging to the enviroment. What the gov says is probably the next worst way. For that matter, neither option are good for finding out if its safe for YOU.

6. How do you find out if its ok? Do the freaking research. Get on that computer or go the library and do the research.

That is the biggest load of crap i’ve heard in a long time!
Wifi is extremely low power radio microwave energy. Radio transmitters have been in use now for over 100 years at every imaginable frequency and power. There has been no documented harm to the environment as a result
.Are you sure you were not reading the “Onion”?

What to look for when buying your first laptop?

Hey! So, I’m looking for purchasing my very first laptop. The world of laptops is quite confusing and I’d like some help. I’ve looked through Consumer Reports and searched on the internet. My purposes for the laptop would be for high school/college work… normal things I guess.
What else should I look for when buying a laptop?
What’s your favorite laptop?
What’s the best brand to buy?
Ahhh, it’s mind-boggling. Thanks so much for answering and helping me out! (: P.S.- My parents are allowing me to split the price half and half with them so that’s a bonus! I’d love to get a MacBook (cause I’d pay about $ 500 of it) but my good friend has one and I don’t want her to think I’m copying her. :(

Dependability. Check out Consumer Reports. As for a MAC vs. a Windows based PC it all depends on what you want to do. If you choose a Mac make sure you check to see if it has the software you use/want.

Avoid HP, too many outstanding class action lawsuits on their laptops. This includes Compaq who HP bought

Before buying you have to chack processor, ram, hard disk

and toshiba tablet release date

toshiba tablet laptop get I am getting a new computer and it is a laptop. i looked in consumer reports and found one i liked but it had only 2gb of RAM. it didnt seem like much and i think that that is the speed but im not sure. i saw that most computers in the chart had the same RAM and only a few desktops had 3. I asked my brother and he said xp couldnt take more than 2gb of RAM and Vista 8. i wanted to confirm this so i asked a friend at school. He said that my brother was wrong, xp can take 7 gb and vista 15. i got 2 very different answers and i need help…

What Does RAM mean?
What Does RAM do?
What is the effect?
How much can Windows XP handle?
What is the difference between 2,3,4… GB of RAM?
How would more help me?
How much is worth getting for what it does?

RAM is how much memory your computer has to run applications (more RAM will mean a faster computer).

Windows XP 32 Bit can handle 3 GB 64 Bit can handle 7 GB

With Windows XP, you wouldn’t really need more than 2 or 3 GB of RAM anyway. I wouldn’t be too concerned over getting more.

ok ram is random access memory, essentially this controlls how many programs and commands ur computer can hold or run simultaneously. depending on ur processor and OS xp can handle no more then roughly 3gb for 32bit and above 4gb for 64bit. the more ram the better.

If you are worried about memory issues get x64 platform

Ram: Random Access Memory
Makes your computer run faster.
XP: 7GB
The more you have the faster your computer runs when you’re multitasking.
Gamers: 4+ GB Anything else 2-4GB will work

Ram – random access memory

it does: its a spot to store data for fast access… if there wasnt ram, your processor would have to search your hard drive, which is much slower…….. Ram is used just temporarily by what every programs you have running…. its the equivelant of having a beer fridge next to the lounge

the effect: the more the better (to a ceiling) although you can never have too much…. if you have too little it slows down the machine

winxp can handle as much ram as you can buy, its limited by your motherboard

difference between 2,3,4… get 4 with vista, 2 is enough for winxp

more would help you by enabling your processor to run at its maximum efficiency…. it lets you open videos, programs etc without the computer struggling and slowing the video etc

its cheap, although 2gb is plenty for winxp…

RAM = Random Access Memory

Acts like short term memory. stores information in a random order and can be accessed really fast and in any order. All of this information is lost when the computer is restarted. This is what is used before the data is stored on the HD.

It’s not how much Win XP can handle, but how much your mother board will support. Windows may only “recognize” so much RAM but that doesn’t mean it won’t use it.

2 Gig = 2048 Mega bytes
3 Gig = 3072 Mega bytes
4 Gig = 4096 mb….the more the better

Allows you to store more temporary information. Which means that it will access information faster.

Get as much as you can for the price. If it’s going to cost $ 400 for 4gb and $ 300 for 2gb then get 4. If that makes any sence. 2 GB would probably be fine for now, but as technology goes forward it won’t be enough. Basic rule of thumb is to buy the best now, then in 12 months it will be average instead of being outdated.

RAM is Random Access Memory. The more your computer has, the better it is able to accomplish many different processes over several different applications. Your processor speed is how fast this is accomplished, and it is this to which you should spend more attention, especially given that you found a laptop you liked with 2GB of RAM. This is quite adequate for all the operating systems you mention. While it is true that OS are becoming more and more “RAM hogs” (requiring more RAM) you should be able to get started with this minimum just fine. Down the line, you may find you want or need more RAM, but 2GB is a totally appropriate place from which to start, especially if you are using a basic Microsoft Office package (including IE). You may want to go to the DELL website and check out some of their laptops – you can “build” your own specs and see what the corresponding costs will be. I suspect you will find better deals there, than going to a consumer-oriented electronics store. Good luck~

Which Toshiba Satellite laptop should I get?

All I really need it for is internet and writing papers (I’m going into college), and for watching some episodes of House. A Consumer Report I read has led me to narrow it down to the T135-S1305 (but I hear the mouse and touchpad aren’t so great) and the A505-S6005. Budget around $ 700. Any thoughts?

try this Laptop (hasn’t got a cd drive, so you’ll want to also get an external cd/dvd drive with it)

toshiba tablet 2011 get Hey Yahoo. So, I’m looking for purchasing my very first laptop. The world of laptops is quite confusing and I’d like some help. I’ve looked through Consumer Reports and searched on the internet. My purposes for the laptop would be for high school/college work and compatible with 2Wire wireless internet. :(

What you want to be able to do with your laptop determines how sophisticated your laptop should be. It ranges from simple web surfing, googling, facebook, msn on the low end to video editing and intense gaming on the high end.

Your laptops screen size is an important factor in how easy it is to carry around, and how much of a desktop replacement it is. Smaller screen: easier to carry around and light weight, not so comfortable to work with all day
How long you want to work just on battery power is another important factor. If you are always close to a power outlet, you do not need an expensive long lasting battery.

Most of the time laptops are used wireless because of the extra freedom it gives. Now you may go for wireless internet from a cellular provider giving you access to internet both inside and outside of your house plus on the road. Or you may go for an internet connection linked to in and around your house. The latter is cheaper.

Wireless in and around your house requires: Internet connection (naturally), a router, firewall and wireless access point (usually combined in just one box), and your laptop.

Wireless in and around your house follows standards, most common these days are wireless g and wireless n (officially IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11n). Wireless n is faster and has more range, it is recommended in houses made from concrete. Most laptops and wireless access points combine more than one standard.

Encryption of the information sent between your laptop and wireless access point is important. The thing to look for is WPA and WPA2, the latter being better. Of course, both your laptop and wireless access point should be able to handle the same encryption.

As you are new, select a wireless access point on the basis of ease of install, even if you have it installed for you, you need to understand where you find what and how to make changes.

MacBookPro is good, but not on your budget. Next choice? Look at Lenovo. Beyond that, others here will give you specifics, I’m sure, so please give them your points. But WHAT to look for, please take heed:

(1) Durability, of course

(2) PLEASE go to a store that has one, and FEEL the keyboard. Many friends of mine and people of whom I’ve heard, have bought a computer sight unseen, based on a reputation, and ended up very displeased with the keyboard, and had to live with it. If the keyboard doesn’t fit YOUR hands, you’re up the creek without a paddle, as they call it.

Two other good places for reviews:
cnet.com
pcmag.com

When your ready to start lookin look here or at the mfg website for specials like the dell outlet center, toshiba specials and sales from the home page

THIS IS NOT AN AFFILIATE PROGRAM OR LINK FOR ME TO MAKE COMMISSION LIKE PEOPLE LINKING YOU TO AMAZON OR CNET USE, I MAKE NO MONEY WHAT SO EVER FROM THIS POSTING

NO NON NO< no HP< COMPUKE OR GATEWAY top 3 worst on the market

I am just as confused as you are (lol) but if you decide to go with a PC, I’d say go for Gateway. For the first entire year that your laptop will be under warranty they offer awesome service. Make sure you register it as soon as you get it all set up. My whole hard drive went and the only thing I had to pay was for shipping back to me. It cost a total of $ 28 to get it fixed (shipping back to me) and from the time I shipped it to the time I got it back it was exactly one week. My sister also has a Gateway and her keyboard went and she e-mailed them and they sent her a brand new one with very easy to follow instructions on how to install it. No charge to her whatsoever, which is what made me go for Gateway, and I did not feel I was copying her.

Best brand to buy? Asus, Toshiba, and Sony Vaio have proven to be the most reliable for the last couple years. HP, Gateway, and Acer have been the least reliable brands during the same period. See below:

Well I will suggest that as your budget is low I will recommend that you should go and check out the Dell Latitude D620 laptops.

These Dell Latitude D620 laptops are really good and functional too for long term basis as well as they are durable too.

Toshiba Satellite L650 vs Dell Inspiron 15R?

Alright I can’t decide between these laptops. They cost equal and have equal specs.
Specs
320 Gb Hd at 5400 RPM
4GB RAM
Intel Core i3 processer 2.26 Ghz
Cost: $ 649.99
Which should I get?

I’ve heard Toshiba is more reliable, and according to consumer reports, it is recommend.
I’ve heard Dell has better customer service, and is more reliable than toshiba.

Toshiba will last you longer than a dell

toshiba tablet 3g get Ok im Deciding to get PC or Mac laptop.
First of all im wanting to learn How you PC users like new W7.
Please Tell any cool features you like about it,
Anything u didnt know it had. (positive thing)
Any minor bugs it has.
Anything thats different from XP.
Pretty much say what you like about it, and what not u like about it. (Pros and Cons)
Say what kind of computer your running also if possible. :)

Come on, W7 isnt perfect so it must have a small problem.

Thanks, and please reply folks.

I hear it’s 10x better than Vista…much faster.

Im still running the RC but it’s been fine…programs all load instantly on boot…no more splash screens on loading either..It just boots and eveythings running (or appears to be anyways)…way faster than vista…no spyware yet and all i have running is avast and the windows defender..I like how you can have themes and wallpapers rotate..slight problem getting epson printer to run but it works now…couple times programs not responding but Im a fast button masher and close and open random things without waiting…too soon to tell how it’ll be once full off programs and drivers

I’ve been running Windows 7 for more than a few months on both a notebook and a HTPC. The operating system is a great upgrade from Vista as it is more stable, more hands off, and uses less resources. Yes, it is easier to use than XP and Vista. The start up time isn’t any faster so don’t be fooled by that claim.

I would still say buy a PC over a Mac. Just because you get more for your money.

I have been using the RC (Release Candidate build 7100) since June, I have to say that its the best OS ever. I’ve used Mac OS X, while the two are similar, Windows 7 is my personal choice, it’s easier to work with, faster, and has loads of new features. I’ve only encountered a few bugs in it, nothing worth mentioning as they’ve been sorted out by now when it has been released.

Other changes – it looks better, runs faster, has loads of new programs (new version of paint, Homegroups, new version of Movie Maker).

Its lighter on your RAM, Faster, Nice GUI, New and improved fetures. Like Windows Taskbar, Aero peek, Snap, Jump list, Homegroup,Windows search is faster,Performance was improved, Now you get faster boot up and shutdowns,64-bit.

Overall its a great operating system. I personally like the new slim User interface they gave it, Snap and Aero peek features makes it alot easier to navigate through windows. Which is great for multi-taskers. Also, Windows 7 has touch support. So if you have a touchscreen monitor. You can now use your finger as the mouse. Well I downloaded Windows 7 90 day RTM trial and was suprise to found a couple bugs on my first use of it. Minor though, nothing they can’t fix in a Patch or updates later on. Im currently using the RC version of 7 and its great. Im pretty sure im going to end up buying the official RTM. I recommend Windows 7 Home Premium, I mean there are so many versions but this one is probaly best for most of you out there.
theres:

Windows 7 Starter Edition
Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Home Premium
WIndows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows 7 Eneterprise

Its pretty pricy though, the upgrase are already expensive. And the full retail versions are even more than what the upgrades cost. Why I suggest Home premium, because it has the basic standard features that everyone uses..Like Media Center,Homegroup, Snap & Aero peek. This is all you need really. Difference between other versions is small and cost way more money. Look at the Professional version. It has all the same features Home premium has, incept that this one has Windows XP mode. And then theres the Ultimate version, Which has everything home and Pro editions have. Multi User Interface(language), Bit-locker drive encyption, etc but why spend an extra 200$ on things you dont even use. Enterprise is the exact same thing as Ultimate just with more security. In reality you should just focus on the 3 main versions, which are:

Home premium
Professional
Ultimate

How to secure a used HP laptop for sale (erasing files, security, etc)?

i posted an item a little while ago re: Consumer reports thoughts on identity safety and the such in the realm of selling and disposing of PC’s; how there was possibly a void in how securely folks take care of such matters when selling a laptop, e.g. I have a HP dv9500t- I’m selling it; will the restore disc (taking it back to out of box state) be sufficient? Anyone familiar w/ HP’s that can lend a thought or two? Thnx

I used wipe drive pro (www.whitecanyone.com) to competely erase my hard drive in accordance with DOD (departement of defense) procedure. it overwrites your hard drive 3 times and then I restored (with the mfg restore disks) the operating system. It took me about 5hrs+ but it was totally worth knowing I was protecting myself
I also know that this company will sell your used laptop as well (I talked to them, they charge a fee to sell it but they do all that stuff for you)
http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=it-bysmart

read this : http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Computer_Science/2007/completely_erase_harddrive.asp

first of all, you need hard disk zero writers to completely empty out your hard drive and then reinstall the system and then what you need to do is to install some popular softwares if you got them to make your deal more impressive

You need to understand that when you Format a hard drive, or when you delete a file, all that happens is that you identify that data or all the data in the case of a format, that it is okay to write data over any or all of those files.

The Format and Delete commands only remove a small line of code that lets the hard drive find a file or program.
THEY DO NOT PHYSICALLY REMOVE THE DATA FROM YOUR HARD DRIVE.

You need a program that will over write the data on the disk with 1′s and 0′s in accordance with the FB I or Military specifications. In this manner, it renders any/all data that was on the hard drive totally erased and nothing of your “history” will remain there. Once you have that done, you can reinstall Windows XP (or whatever) and sell your PC.

I use Killdisk and you can get it FREE at http://www.download.com

Hope this helps.

lenovo g550 laptop.I am looking into getting a new laptop for school next year and I don’t know what kind to get.
Right now I have a Dell and have not been happy with it.
But from looking on consumer reports Dell seems to be ranked really high.
I want to make sure that whatever I invest money into I will be happy with the product.

get a mac. i got one recently and i’ll never use anything else again

8/10

ive never had issues with my dell

How old was the Consumer Reports article? What did it say about Toshiba? Regretfully most computer manufacturers are putting out less dependable products these days due to stiff competition and sagging sells. Whatever you but make sure you get an extended warranty. Look into Toshiba, avoid HP and Sony

I have had 3 Dells, one being an older Desktop running ME, and the thing was a POS only good for surfing the internet, and even that was slow. My next was an older inspiron (like first XP) and the track pad broke, and some keys didnt work. My last and latest has been the Inspiron 1525, and it is a piece of crap, the MOBO fried within a year, and now the HDD is messed up. And when the MOBO had to be replaced and the repair man (from Dell) left out screws so now the case is busted. I am NOT buying another Dell, but if i did it would have to be an XPS model. Best move though IMO is to get a macbook ($ 949 and a free 8GB ipod touch) and run Windows Vista or 7 in Boot Camp.

well if u see dell is highly ranked!
it depends what dell laptop u use…dell are mostly used for official use!..i think so
mac’s could be used be used but they are pricy and somethings to be operated on pc’s is easy!
always look for a laptop that is rated has 2 gb memory minimum or else ur computer would work hella slow
try lenovo Tg1 its not as cool but is really fast professional type!
hope this helped!

Are Sony VAIOs good laptops?

I need a new laptop and I’ve been looking around. I have certain requirements and a budget. I found the Sony VAIO NS135. It has everything I want and it is in my budget. Now I’m trying to find reviews on it so see if it’s worth it. I went on to consumer reports, ZDnet, and CNET. None of the websites have a review about this laptop. Since I can’t find reviews does anyone know how good Sony VAIOs are in general?
What other good laptops are there? I was told by friends that HP and Compaqs aren’t very good. Due to past issues with Dell I refuse to buy a Dell. For now I think I would prefer a PC over a Mac.

Sony Vaio laptops Are Best for Home use And it have Premium Design.

Sony Vaio NS135 is A Good laptop for home Entertainment

Some Best Laptops
–Alienware M17
—Sony Vaio FW series
—-Dell Studio 17
Note-I Am using Alienware M17 It is Best.

We have had 2 Vaio laptops in the last 5 yrs. I have had a problem with the battery on the first one within the warranty expiration, (which Sony took care of – no problems at all with the claim) and the battery on the 2nd just went out (after 3 yrs). I like them as far as durability. We use them for work and they take a beating for sure. Plus no problems with performance like we had with our Dell’s & HP’s at work. I will say if you prefer Windows, Sony would be a good choice.

Two questions: Dell laptops black Friday sale, and why does everyone hate Dell?

Two questions:

#1 What places will have customizable Dell laptops on sale on black Friday, or are likely to have sales.

#2 Why do so many people think Dell is such a bad computer company? I want to make sure that if I get a Dell computer, I won’t have something horrible happen. Consumer Reports gave their customer service #3 place, they have good prices as far as I’ve seen, so what’s with it that I should worry about?
i meant 3rd place not #3 place

I have 2 home PC’s that are both Dells & work have recently changed my laptop from a HP to a Dell – The Dell is far superior – Never had any problems with them…

I like the Dell chassis.

Like everything else, you just have to know what you’re buying.

As far as performance Dells do really well. I don’t care for them because of the cost and the cost to upgrade them. With upgrading you can only buy Dell hardware for most of their systems and it can get pretty pricey. If you aren’t going to worry about upgrading in the future then disregard that last part.

I ♥ my Dell

hello

sweetheart nobody will give 100% guaranteee that if you buy a computer you won’t have ANY problem.

those who think DELL is bad company are END-USERS. means its not DELL faukt END-USERS don’t do upgrade of Windows XP or any OS they have. Its not DELL fault users forgot or ignore to have antivirus update. Its not DELL fault that users ignore any warning that machines gives them when they are downloading something.

look Dell is not bad comnpany, people who buy Dell computer system or any computer syste, expect from computers do things, that computer aren’t designed t do.

bottom line END-USERS need to be more EDUCATED

While I haven’t actually bought a Dell I’ve always heard that they are difficult to upgrade. Having said that, if you are going to want to upgrade a computer frequently you’ll probably be able to do it yourself or at least have a friend who can help you so it would be easier for a person like that to buy a custom built PC or buy the parts and build it themselves. If you just want a computer to last a while and are not too concerned about upgrading I don’t think Dell is a bad choice.

Best Buy should have sales on laptops. I’m looking for a $ 200-$ 300 laptop too on Black Friday. I’m not sure if they sell Dell computers in stores though or only online or brochure. I have a Dell desktop and it’s good. Never had a problem for 2 years (that’s how many years I’ve had it). Near at the Pathmark by my house, they have Dell and Toshiba laptops windows 2000 on sale Black Friday only for $ 299. It’s pretty good when you think about it.

dells ar not good because they give you problems and the service for trying to fix the problems is very bad. i would get a mac. they never have problems.

I’ve had my dell for a year and would not get any thing else. going to get a lap top next spring

Dell Or HP? Price? Reliablitlty? Any thing else i should know about either brand? HELP PLEASE ITS URGENT!!?

My mom is getting me a Laptop for my birthday. She is planning got buy it at B And H or best buy.

She says dell was found better than Hp on consumer reports but she cant find the article. All my Friends have Hp and they love it but no n can compare the two.
Please give any info you know about either brand and there models.
Tips
Price- 1 – 1000 dollars
reliability- probably only use it in the house but need every day for typing home work researching and playing games not one of those entertainment laptops my ma already said no.

Dell’s speciality is computers. Hp is more a printer company. Get Dell.

Dell is better and i have a couple of articles from the newspaper saying Dell is the best. They also have the best customer support. But all accesories and everything for a dell have to be purchased from the dell website and most of the things are expensive. For example my dell laptop adapter burned out and now i have to buy a new one from dell and its 70 bucks no other companies are compatible with dell and there are no stores. But in the end Dell is still better

That guy from the first answer doesn’t seem to know what he is talking about. HP’s specialty but now its computers. In fact HP surpassed Dell as the number one pc manufacturer. I highly recommend a HP. The design of the computer is more elegant then a Dell. Plus HP’s have there computers loaded with fun games plus fun software you can use to edit your pics and movies.

and toshiba m400 tablet

toshiba android tablet get I read something that seemed to indicate they could. But, I am hoping for confirmation one way or the other?

Macs are supposed to be a hair less reliable, per Consumer Reports study, but, the Mac OS is supposed to be better. Hoping for best of both.
I already have a new laptop. I was thinking about experimenting with either the oldest (five years – XP) one that is only an emergency laptop now that is in a closet.
or, my wife’s if it was something fairly easily done. I have more experience doing hardware mods than technical software operation changes

A PC cannot run Mac OS but a Mac can run PC OS

If you go on youtube there are tutorials on how to make your pc act as a Mac OS. It will change the settings to make is look and function like one.

Legally you can’t. Mac OSX only allows there operating system to be put on their hardware. There are some hacker that have done it but these are experienced people and i wouldn’t imagine it would share the reliability aspect that you’re looking for from the OS. Your best bet right now is probably just going with XP, its a very sturdy operating system. When Windows 7 comes out it will probably be better, but currently a lot of people aren’t fans of Vista. (Linux might also be something you look into if you’re experienced but it’s not going to have the compatibility aspects of the previous operating systems).

It’s up in the air right now as to how legal it is. Apple says you can’t do it in their EULA, but that is being challenged in court currently by several parties.

Apple uses a more modern type of BIOS called EFI. People have basically created a fake EFI boot loader for PCs that trick them into running OS X.

You have to have a fairly modern (last 3 years or so) processor, ideally Intel, to do it. Some models have mode OS X drivers available for them than others. WIFI drivers tend to be a problem.

If you are just curious, you can read more about it by Googling “OSX86″ with the quotes.

The unresolved legal issue aside, it’s a lot easier to just buy a Mac and know that the hardware is made for it and drivers / support are available. Apple hardware is generally fantastic.

Dell or HP Laptops??

Hello! I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about these brands of laptops. I usually get advice from 2 techies at work…but they both have different opinions about these brands.

As far as quality is concerned, which is “better”…Dell or HP? Looking at the ratings on the Consumer Reports site, they look they run pretty much neck and neck with one another….so maybe it’s just a matter of personal opinion?

The models i’m looking into are the Dell Inspiron E1705 and the HP dv9500t – both would be customized to fit my needs, of course (looking to use my laptop as a “mobile portfoilio” for my photography work.

Thank you for your help! I appreciate it!

HP over DELL

HP. Dell has bad service. They has just being sued by NYC for avoiding to give service to their clients.

Of the laptops I’ve serviced and repaired, HPs are the nicest machines to work on. HP has amazing tech support and their restore cds are life savers (they’ll restore your computer 100% to it’s original state in the event of a disaster). I’ve never had problems with HP machines.

It really is a matter of opinion. Since these are rated closely, you need to look at your personal priorities and what you need in a computer. I would configure what you need at both sites and then take the item with the least cost. I am facing the same thing now as I am about to purchase a new laptop. Since I have an HP now and it has been a great machine and I can walk into almost any store and buy one, that’s probably what I’ll get again.

Never used an HP laptop, we have a Dell and its 2 years old. The power plug recently went out we replaced it. The cd drive went out we called had it replace and they walked us thru installing it. Other than that we havent had any problems or any bad customer service

Hp for sure. My dell axim, after 2 years of use, the battery is drained. Hardly used it at all really. It seemed pretty cheap anyway. I own 3 hp pc’s(I’m on a Hp 510 right now, $ 584.99 at pcmall. I’m very impressed with all three of them.
Dell= Cheap
HP= Quality

Personnally I wouldn’t go with either. I would advise going with a different brand. I good source and good place to find deals on computer equipment is tigerdirect.com. Their customer service is excellent and can help you in making any decisions. They will ask you the purpose you need it for and let you know which would best suit you. They won’t try to make you accept the most expensive product which makes is even better. They won’t hassle you into buying something you don’t need.

I have a HP dv5220us Entertainment Notebook. I’ve had it about a year. About six months after I had it, the backstroke key quit functuncing. HP sent a special packing box, Fed Ex picked it up, and with two working days, Fed Ex brought it back all good as new. Under contract, so no charge to me. I was very impressed with HP’s service!! The only reason I bought an HP rather than a Dell is because the HP was on sale, and I also get an educator’s discount. I’ve been very pleased with it. I will definitely get an extended contract for only $ 109 a year.

i have a DV6125 laptop , wonderful machine , 1 GB of RAM , rocket speed , great battery life , wonderful online service , they answer right away with any tech support you need , very durable , looks wonderful and very elegant , i can leave it for 5 days opened and no problems happen at all , dell are good as well , but HP is much much better .

new laptops 2011.A relative is looking to purchase a laptop but cannot decide on a brand. Someone with an account at Consumer Reports mentioned to me that Toshiba came out at #1 in relation to how few problems owner’s have with their Toshiba laptops. Do you know if that is true, and if so, can you back it up with sources?
I understand that one should preferably decide on what specifications suit them and go from there. However, this is a very picky family member and wants to see sources on which brand actually had the fewest problems in the real world.

APPLE

THAT IS VERY TRUE
we have two in our house, and one is 5 or 6 years old, and still works fine!

it is great!!
i recommend this brand. But I do not recommend acer brand

it depends on the owner, if they had a good experience

http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/921232

It does not really matter about brand, as it is just the same product with a different label. Try to find a laptop with the spec and price you need, don’t base it on one thing.

My laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens and it is great, highly recommended.

According to a laptop reliability study done by SquareTrade, a not for profit organisation, Toshiba’s rank 2nd in terms of laptop longetivity:

http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/computers/apple-laptops-fourth-in-reliability-study-20091118-im8t.html

Try a Dell

I have owned laptops from Gateway (2), Dell, Compaq, HP and Toshiba.

The Toshiba Satelite series are pretty good.

The gateway’s and Dell’s I had all seemed to go through batteries quickly (meaning the batteries went bad and I had to replace them when they were less than a year old, one of my gateway’s I had to replace the battery 3 times).

I never had a problem with my compaq laptop, I just replaced it with a Toshiba. There was no problem with it, I just wanted a newer one.

I use a HP laptop for work and I have no problems with that one either.

I’d stay away from Dell, Gateway, & Acer. Dell and Gateway its long been rumored they sometimes use used parts in their “new” laptops (desktops too)

Anything e-machines, e-machines would have to pay me to use.

If you go to newegg.com or tigerdirect.com and look at the laptops they have to offer, there will be reviewes by people who own them already, which is sometimes a big help.

well i suggest dell … or apple

so i say go with dell

HP is very fragile !! and dell is well build and strong !

so if u have lots of money … go with an apple .. or my choice DELL !!

lots of experience on HP, Dell ASUS Acer and Toshiba laptops.

HP has lots of losers, but a few MAJOR winners, DV7T and DV6T laptops made in 2008-2009 years that have Intel 4500MHD chips and ATI chips are Rock solid for reliability! (Personal experience)

Dell, they like to break more often then not and the customer/warranty support has one heck of a reputation.

ASUS (My new laptop), its a shocker!, quality is out of this world, the last time I remember seeing such high quality parts, ingenuity, creativity and usability was reviled only by a Toshiba Qosmio and Apple computers dating between 2002 and 2005, with them. Very creative and solid, I was honestly impressed (2 weeks ago being a first time ASUS buyer) – lets see how they will stand up to Sager next year!.
The cooling system will impress even the most experienced with computer hardware, Keeping a GTX260 at 88c at FULL throttle standalone and wait, ITS ON MY LAP and It feels like its 25-30c (room temp). (G72GX is a gaming laptop—Not for the average Joe…Oh wait it is but only in this one case =))

Acer 400-600$ machines proved themselves absolutely solid performers! stunning!, in particular the 4530 models must have bin built for wartime or something!, don’t be fooled by the plastic, cheep laptops is where Acer simply SHINES!!!, with no competition in sight, BUT, I have the absolute opposite to say about their 800$ and up priced laptops.

Toshiba, enjoys the lowest return rates at a store one of my buddies works at, they have different lines, but my particularly favorite would be the QOSMIO line in Europe! check em out, its 100% PURE quality!

Apple took one heck of a dive in 2006-2009, their quality is plummeting, but! I am watching them and right now they are working on raising their quality, they are really trying hard, I am rooting for them, but as for right now, whats available, I would have to advise a pass on almost all products.
These guys better stop selling their technology and use some of it themselves.
Did you know these Apple makes a good chunk of its profits from technology sales?

We left out on last company, IBM
Number 1 for quality, used on space stations and I can personally vouch for their rock solid reliability! these things are built for war outer space then back to war!!!, but whats money when it comes to getting Number one for years and still counting.

as a previous answer stated about notebookcheck.net, that’s a pretty good site to get good info on CPU and GPU’s, although be careful they are biased towards Nvidia!!

http://www.tomshardware.com/ is also pretty good reading.

here is my opinion INTEL though
IBM – Rock solid but not cheap
Gateway – another favorite, many because I have had my laptop for AGES but not cheap
ASUS – are ok
MSI – pretty decent, I don’t know which one I would choose Asus or MSI for this
Gigabyte – No issues, has pretty decent support PIII drivers still kicking around
Toshiba – Good but support is lacking for older hardware
HP – Meh, haven’t had too much experience with them but seem ok
DELL – I always pictured dell as cheap but I have no opinion on this
ACER – stay the heck away from this if you can always failing in one way or another

also it depend on how you use them, most electronics have a MTBF (mean time bettween fail) of 30,000 hours, that’s not much if you have it on all the time. around 3.5 years or so. (including power pack this counts too)
Keeping them away from dust also helps to, it clogs up the fan and the cpu runs hotter than normal If the CPU runs cooler you can prolong the life of your computer by quite a considerable amount. Handle them as if you are carrying a baby.
Don’t use in a storm (atleast don’t have it pluged in), when the power goes out this isn’t the problem, it’s when it comes back on it can create a small surge and degrade the compacitors on the power supply.

Put it this way I have a laptop from 1994 and it still works it doesn’t have a fan though (weird hey, but 486′s don’t produce much heat, its a Gateway 2000 solo).

Hi there,

This Sony laptop is a great choice and if you are not a gamer, an i5 processor is not necessary. The i3 should be sufficient for your purposes. For more information on actual user experience, you can check out some laptop review sites. I also recommend you check out a tool called PC Scout to see what other laptops are available in your price range. You can enter the specs and features you want and it will generate recommendations for you.

Actually, it is a good idea. I wonder though how religions “preform” things. Perhaps they “preform” one’s beliefs. Or, they can “preform” what holidays you will celebrate in the future.

Oh, maybe you meant “perform”?

No, Christianity would be a “Best Buy” by default.

Can you believe how biased Consumer Reports is towards Apple laptops?

I read the magazine and looked at their ratings. Apples ranked no less than number 2 to any other brand in the laptop and desktop categories. There were even PC’s that had twice the memory and hard drive space of the Apples for half, even a THIRD of the price, and they still ranked poorly!

Clearly, the people behind these ratings were heavily delusional and biased towards Apple products. I’m about to send them a nasty email and call them out. It’s ridiculous. There’s no way something that is so inferior and costs 2-3x as much is better. This is CONSUMER Reports.

What a trash magazine.

I was in the computer programming and repair business before PCs were a reality.
WHAT PEOPLE DONT REALIZE ABOUT APPLE
Back in the day (the early 70s), the first home computers became available to the public. There were Ataris, Apples, Commodores, Radio Shack Tandys, etc. No ones software would run on any of them as the architecture was different on every one of them. You had to buy software for your PC from the company that manufactured it. This quickly became a problem for the upcoming software market. A consortium was held and everyone decided to make their systems compatible so the software market could blossom. Everyone EXCEPT Apple. Apple went on their own way with their proprietary system that would run nothing anyone else programmed. You had to buy most of your software from Apple. Apple applied this philosophy for 35 years. In that 35 years, they only cornered never more than 5 percent of the computer buying market. In the last year, Apple has introduced a new system that uses intel chipsets. The reason plain and simple? Apple was going down the tubes. Their fix? Make their computers more compatible with the burgeoning computer market. Unfortunately, you buy their already overrated, overpriced, incompatible Mac and then spend money to convert it to run windows. What they DONT tell you? That a good lot of software STILL wont run on it simply because you cant upgrade it to run the latest software. You want to upgrade a Mac? You buy a new Mac! EVERY other PC manufacturer is compatible with the 3rd party hardware manufacturers, Mac, no way! The PC hardware market itself makes for competitive prices. This in turn creates lower prices for the computer buying market. Apple? They STILL dont come close. I’ve been in the business since it started, I spent my life programming machines with windows software. I could write a bible on what doesnt run on a mac that runs on windows! The measure of a computers power is what it CAN run and Apple doesnt come close to hi end, engineering software. The myth that Apple is better in the creativity field is a joke too. For every Mac application, I can show you a half dozen for PCs that are the same or better. You want to pay a high price for low quality, proprietary equipment, feel free but I’d suggest you read the history of the home computer.

I’m a PC! You want a valuable tool, go buy a PC. You want bling and a status symbol, buy a diamond necklace.

What you say may be true to a certain degree Skater but why pay 2 grand or more for a Mac when you can buy a netbook for less than 300 bucks?

I hear you man. i don’t even know why people still buy those notebooks there over priced pieces of shit. but i guess if your a teenager or your in your 70′s it does exactly what you need it to do, which is really nothing at all.

lol you go blamay!

I’m not an Apple fanboy or anything, but Apple’s business model for years has been easy usability for the average consumer and that’s exactly what they do. Let’s take a look past the hardware perspective and take a look at their functionality. They do exactly what they’re supposed to do. It allows computer users of any level to use them, and to top that a lot of people like their stylish looks. As hard as it is to accept for hardcore PC users that’s the truth and even though I personally don’t like them myself they are very efficient in what they do.

I totally understand your point because I have been using a PC for almost 10 years now.But Apple computers do have advantages compared to PCs. For example, its GUI has a modern and elegant feel that is why most graphic designers tend to use Apple computers because it stirs imagination and creativeness.Since Apple develops both the software and hardware, they can easily fix the bugs reported by users be it software or hardware fault.Lastly, it is rarely infected with any malwares, making it a very secure system and with almost no system crash history.

i like compaq preserio , ruff and tuff with good configuration

Most laptop manufacturers has a at least a consumer (cheap) line and a professional line (higher quality, more expensive) line of laptops. The professional line usually cost over $ 1000. For example, for the popular 15.4 inch laptops, Consumer Reports has recommendations for what they call Budget or Workhorse type laptops.

15.4-inch Budget:
• Toshiba Satellite A215-S4697 , $ 720
• Dell Inspiron 1521 , $ 845

15.4-inch Workhorse:
• Apple Macbook Pro 15-inch , $ 2000
• Dell Inspiron 1520 , $ 1095
• Lenovo ThinkPad R61 , $ 1110

In terms of Brand Repair History, Consumer Reports show Lenovo and Compaq as the best, then Sony and Toshiba, then Dell, HP and Gateway. At the bottom of the list is Apple. However, the difference are very small. This is quite a change from 2 years ago when Apple and Sony were the best and Compaq was close to the bottom.
